Buying a used saddle is not just about saving money, even though that is one of the most appealing factors! New saddles take at least a month to break into you and your horse. This is the time it takes to soften the leather and get out the overall stiffness. A Used Saddle comes broken in and ready to go! This ready to go feel makes it feel like your saddle even faster and you will have  a much more secure seat.

If you practice eventing, you will need at least two saddles, if not three. One for jumping and cross country or two separate saddles for these two divisions. And you will absolutely need a dressage saddle. If dressage is new to you, buying a used saddle makes economical sense in case you decide the is not a style you enjoy. Then you can always sell the saddle back or keep it in you tack room just for eventing.

As your riding style and horses change you saddle may need to also. Buying a used saddles, saves you the time and money of buying a new saddle each time.

Used Saddles also allow you to purchase a higher quality saddle at a reduced price! Most trainers will tell you that you are better off investing the same dollar amount in a quality used saddle as opposed to a brand-new saddle of a lesser quality. The high level saddle, even though used will have a higher quality leather and mold to you easier.

Children and the fact of how fast they grow is another huge plus to buying used saddles. You buy them a used saddle that is already broken in, you will save worry about scratches that come with kids and ponies and then once they grow, sell that saddle and go find the next size up!

We at the Maryland Saddlery love to see the amazing array of saddles that walk through our door! Give us a call if you are looking for something special or have questions. 1-800-428-5077.
